Asda employee praised for 'touching' and 'kind' response to homeless man

An Asda employee has been praised by shoppers for her touching gesture to a homeless man outside the supermarket where she works.

Debbie has been flooded with responses after Asda shared her touching story with shoppers which has since gone viral, reports The Manchester Evening News.

In a post to Facebook, the supermarket chain detailed how Debbie had bought some food and drink to a homeless man outside the supermarket and then set him up with a place to stay.

The full post read: "When our colleague Debbie saw a homeless man sat on the kerb by our Wath Upon Dearne supermarket she knew she couldn't walk by without helping him."

"After chatting to him and discovering that he'd been living rough for two weeks in a tent and was hungry, Debbie went into the store, bought him some food and a drink and grabbed an umbrella as it was raining.

"She knew of someone who was allowing their caravan to be used as a temporary shelter free of charge for homeless people so she contacted them and arranged for him to stay there until he spoke to housing charities and got somewhere more permanent."

The post has since received 28,000 likes and touched the heartstrings of many loyal customers who were all praising Debbie for her kind gesture.

One shopper responded to Debbie's actions saying: "Act of kindness goes a long way Debbie and you have shown it to this young man."

While a third wrote: "What a wonderful thing to do. What a great world it would be if there were more Debbie's. Well done.xx"

Debbie's actions have not only won over shoppers but also her colleagues, as she was nominated by her store manager for a Customer Service Award.

Store Manager Shane, nominated Debbie while saying "A lot of people would have just walked past and not stopped, but not Debbie. She's a very kind-hearted person and will do anything for anyone.

The man, who was in his early twenties, came into store to thank Debbie and to reassure her that he was okay and now had somewhere to stay. Well done Debbie, you're an outstanding colleague."

Debbie's response and Asda's story have since went viral and made headlines across national and regional media.
