British shoppers looking for bargains this Black Friday should head towards the nearest Asda filling station.
The supermarket is dropping the price of petrol across 273 of its filling stations and motorists can expect to pay 99.7p on unleaded petrol and 103.7p on diesel. These are the lowest prices offered since summer 2009.
From Friday November 27 until Sunday 19 – the offer falls just in time for Black Friday. However, the retailer stresses that this is an additional boosts for customers in the run-up to the festive season rather than a Black Friday offer.
“The Chancellor’s freeze on fuel duty is what our customers were hoping for. We’re adding a further boost by investing in a three day fuel price drop meaning drivers can now benefit from fuel as low as 99.7ppl in the crucial run-up to the festive period.
“We’d urge the chancellor to continue with a freeze on fuel duty in the March Budget to help maintain discretionary income levels for families,” said Asda President and CEO Andy Clark.
Asda, owned by the US chain Walmart and credited for bringing Black Friday to the UK in 2013, said it was not going to take part in Black Friday after chaotic scenes in stores last year.
The retailer said it wanted to spread out the £26 million it is investing in Christmas sales over the period, rather than hold customers hostage to a day or two of sales.
Asda will revert back on Monday to 103.7p on unleaded petrol and 106.7p on diesel.
