ASDA customers use self-checkout to underpay on £1,300 worth of shopping

A probe has been launched after customers walked out of an Asda superstore having underpaid on £1,300 worth of shopping.

Expensive electrical goods were sold for substantially below the correct price after being swiped through a self-checkout till at the Minworth store in Birmingham, according to Birmingham Live.

Police have now issued images of four people they are keen to speak to regarding the goods that are worth up to £1,300 and were swiped through a self-service till from 11am on March 21.

They confirmed that items worth "several hundred pounds" each, including Sharp electrical items were put through the till but the correct amounts were not paid.

Police are looking to speak to three men and a woman (West Midlands Police)

Officers are also keen to track down a Vauxhall Zafira registration number BN56 YEE which is believed to be connected to the case.

The force said: “Do you recognise any of these four?

“We want to speak to them after electrical goods worth £1,300 were taken from Asda supermarket in Walmley Ash Road, Minworth in Sutton Coldfield.

“A number of items, each worth several hundred pounds, were passed through a self-service till between 11am on Sunday 21 March and 11am Monday 22 March but the correct amounts were not paid for them."

The statement continued: “Our enquiries are ongoing and we understand that those involved drove away in a Vauxhall Zafira registration number BN56 YEE."

“If you know any of the three men and the woman in the image, or know anything about the Vauxhall car, please let us know.

“You can message us live chat at west-midlands.police.uk or call 101 quoting crime number 20BE/83730M/21. Alternatively to tell us what you know, not who you are, speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
