Asda customers left frustrated as card machines go down nationwide

Customers at Asda supermarkets nationwide have expressed their frustrations after reporting that card machines are down.

Messages about the issues have flooded Twitter with visitors to the stores this afternoon, questioning when the problem would be resolved.

A customer at a store in Hyde said: "It's now twice in one week @AsdaServiceTeam hyde had been cash only due to problems with taking card. 

"We have become a cashless society so get your stuff sorted @asda not good when you come out and only have android pay and no cards you cant draw out cash with a phone."

Another commented: "All the Card Machines have gone down my Local Asda store = Carnage."

"ASDA in Ayr is only taking cash payments. The system is down so no card payments accepted. Pandemonium in the store," tweeted a third.

Another said: "The card payment system has crashed in Asda & it's bedlam."

When contacted by the M.E.N, an Asda spokesperson said: "Due to a technical error, the card machines were not working for around 20-25 minutes in some of our stores on Thursday afternoon.

"This error has now been fixed and the tills are operating as normal, but we would like to thank our customers for their patience as we resolved the issue and would like to apologies for any inconvenience caused."
