Asda customer alleged to have flouted two-metre distance rule is arrested

An alleged queue jumper at supermarket Asda has been arrested.

Security staff stepped in when the man allegedly flouted two-metre social distancing at the Trafford Park Asda in Manchester, The Mirror reports.

Police were called after he was said to become abusive and threatening and he was detained for a public order offence.

An Asda spokesperson said: "Our colleagues are doing everything possible to try and support customers during this time – but we need our customers to treat each other, and our team with respect.

"Under no circumstances do we tolerate violence towards colleagues or customers in our stores and we will work with the authorities where necessary.”

'He tried to jump the queue'

GMP Stretford tweeted: "A male has been arrested for a public order offence today at @asda Trafford Park.

"He tried to jump the queue to pay for his items, ignoring the 2 metre rule, and when challenged by security became abusive and threatening."

Asda has implemented measures to safeguard both staff and customers against coronavirus.

Screens have been set up in stores, floors have been marked with distancing guides and there are extra barriers, signs and announcements.
