Asda could introduce nail bars and hair salons in UK stores

Major retailer Asda could be about to introduce some major changes to all UK stores.

The supermarket giant’s owners Mohsin and Zuber Issa, who took over last year, could be set to make huge changes to the chain.

The pair are in talks to reduce food aisles by around a quarter to make space for more cafés, hair salons and even nail bars, reports the Sunday Times.

According to the Mirror, this is part of a wider plan to keep people shopping for longer and boost overall spending on the high street.

However, any proposals are subject to the clearance from the competition and markets authority (CMA).

The watchdog started its investigation into the deal in December 2020 with plans to provide an outcome by April 20.

Asda has already been making space in stores for third party concessions such as Claire's Accessories and The Entertainer and recently launched its in-house Covid-19 vaccination centres.

Asda stores have remained open during the pandemic as an essential retailer.
