ASDA card machines go down across the country causing 'chaos'

Shoppers were left angry today, as ASDA card machines went down, leaving people unable to pay for their shopping.

The supermarket's card payment system reportedly went down, with many people on social media reporting the problem - that is thought to be nationwide.

On Twitter many people were left raging, saying there was chaos in some stores.

Diane Howard-Conroy said: "All card machines on tills at Asda have gone down apparently it’s nationwide so take money if you’re going shopping. Queue by cash machines is massive outside our Asda in Walton."

Andew Conley said: "I'm currently in your Drakehouse sheffield branch, card machines are not working. Cash only, really inconvenient when I have a trolley full of shopping and 2 kids. Surely a company of Asda's size should have a back up for this? 2nd time at this branch too.. Poor."

Tracey Armstrong said: "ASDA in Ayr is only taking cash payments. The system is down so no card payments accepted. Pandemonium in the store."

Barbara said: "The card payment system has crashed in Asda & it’s bedlam."

James West said: "It’s all kicking off at tha ASDA. Card machines are down so we’re having to queue at the ATM like it’s 1983."

And Jennifer said: "I cannot tell you how much fun it is to spend 45 minutes at Asda with one’s somewhat impatient children only to get to the tills and find they can only take cash and the cash points are empty."

A spokesperson for ASDA said: "Due to a technical error, the card machines were not working for around 20-25 minutes in some of our stores on Thursday afternoon.

"This error has now been fixed and the tills are operating as normal, but we would like to thank our customers for their patience as we resolved the issue and would like to apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
