Asda cafe praised by mums for offering free meals to kids for whole of December

Mums are praising Asda after they announced all kids ' meals served in their cafés will be free for the whole of December.

The supermarket giant made the gesture in a bid to support struggling families during "difficult and unprecedented times " by dishing up around 215,000 free meals to all children under the age of 16 and across its 216 UK stores.

The kids meals will be provided free of charge, even if the adult with the child is not eating and there are no minimum spend requirements or restrictions on the number of children in a family or group that can take advantage of the offer.

The menu includes kids' favourites such as hotdog, pasta bolognese, scampi, lasagne and chicken nuggets amongst others.

Mums have taken to social media to praise Asda for the scheme.

One mum shared a copy of the menu to the Family Lockdown Tips and Ideas Facebook page saying: "Kids eat free in all cafe's in Asda in December. No adult meal needs to be purchased. Tier 2 can eat in, Tier 3 is take out only. Hope this helps somebody."

The post attracted hundreds of comments from mums and dads who were impressed with the gesture.

One said: "This is a lifesaver for some it makes me sad that it’s necessary , no child should ever go hungry! Well done Asda."

"Another said: "Amazing thing to do, let's just hope it doesn't get abused by people who don't genuinely need such help."

Another added: "I hope people only use it who are in desperate need not people thinking it’s a freebie for everyone!

"Wow that’s wonderful of Asda! Hope people use it that need it," added a third.

Richard Dent, Asda’s Vice President for Fresh Food said: “We know that it’s been a really difficult year for families across the UK with many having to turn to food banks and local community groups for support which is why we want to support as many children as we can during the festive period by offering them a meal in one of our cafes.

I’m really proud that through our Fight Hunger Create Change programme, we are able to continue to support our local communities, especially at this time of year.”
