Asda announces massive price lock on over 500 items nationwide, in bid to aid cost of living

Asda has frozen the prices on over 500 branded and own-brand products, in a bid to help alleviate the ongoing cost of living crisis. The price lock can be found on household essentials like cereals, pasta and tea - as well as summer favourites like salads, BBQ goods and cold desserts.

It is set to cover the entirety of the summer, running through until the end of August - and the promotion is available to make the most of both online and in store. The Walmart counterpart insists that the move has been made after its income tracker revealed a fall in disposable household income on a monthly basis.

Brits have long complained of sky-rocketing prices with regard to food and drink over the past few months, with food inflation still at a record high. The most recent figure sits at 19.1 per cent, which is just below the 45-year high witnessed in March.

The Mirror reports that Kris Comerford, Asda’s chief commercial officer, said: "We’re always looking at ways we can support our customers and communities throughout the year, which is why we’re locking the prices of hundreds of products until the end of August. We know that household budgets are tight at the moment, so we want to be able to offer the best value and give customers the confidence they can shop the products they love throughout summer."

Supermarkets across the UK have also recently cut the price of some 'staple' food items like milk, butter, bread, pasta and vegetable oil. Meanwhile, Waitrose earlier this week announced that they had too reduced the prices of around 200 products.

The premium supermarket said that prices had been lowered across 'every aisle', including necessities like butter and caster sugar, as well as tomato ketchup, cocktail sausages and ice cream. It comes as the second price cut by Waitrose this year, the first coming in February and relating to 300 products.
