Asda announces major change to 500 products across ALL stores - see list of examples

Asda has frozen the prices of over 500 branded and own-brand products in a move to help struggling households.

The price lock will be on essential items such as cereals, pasta and tea, as well as summer favourites such as salads, burgers and ice cream.

The lock will cover the summer months and is set to continue until the end of August on products bought online and in-store.

The supermarket says the move has been made after its income tracker revealed that household disposable has continued to fall on a month-by-month basis.

Brits have seen food prices sky-rocket over the last few months with food inflation figures still at record highs.

The recent food inflation figure sat at 19.1% which is just below the 45 year high the UK saw in March.

Kris Comerford, Asda’s chief commercial officer, said: “We’re always looking at ways we can support our customers and communities throughout the year, which is why we’re locking the prices of hundreds of products until the end of August.

“We know that household budgets are tight at the moment, so we want to be able to offer the best value and give customers the confidence they can shop the products they love throughout summer.”

Recently supermarket chains have cut the prices of some "staple" food items.

These include things such as milk, butter, bread, pasta, and vegetable oil.

Earlier this week, The upmarket supermarket chain Waitrose announced that it had reduced the price of 200 of its products.

Waitrose said it had lowered prices in “every aisle”, including butter, tomato ketchup, Fairtrade golden caster sugar, cocktail sausages, salad and ice creams

This was the second price cut the upmarket chain announced this year - the first was in February where it cut the price of more than 300 products.
