Asda and Sainsbury's slash cost of petrol and diesel

After January saw higher-than-normal fuel prices across the UK, Asda and Sainsbury's have announced they are slashing the cost of their diesel and unleaded petrol in an upcoming sale.

Effective from Wednesday, January 29, drivers filling up at any of Asda’s 322 petrol stations will benefit from a price cut by up to 3 pence per litre across both unleaded petrol and diesel.

This means drivers filling up at any Asda filling station will pay no more than 120.7 pence per litre on unleaded and 124.7 pence per litre on diesel.

Meanwhile, the Sainsbury's discount will apply from Friday, January 31.

The supermarket will also drop prices by up to 3 pence per litre across all of its 315 forecourts.

As usual, customers will also be able to collect Nectar points every time they fill up, gaining one point on every litre purchased.

Luke Bosdet, the AA’s fuel price spokesman said January has been a difficult month for many motorists.

"Average UK petrol and diesel pump prices have been at their highest for a January since 2014 and, despite wholesale costs declining over the past two to three weeks, they have stayed stubbornly above 128p a litre for petrol and 132.5p for diesel," he said.
