Asda and Co-op issue warning as products pulled from shelves over safety fears

Several supermarkets have issued food and drink recalls amid safety fears.

Asda and Co-Op have recalled a number of items in recent weeks, with customers urged not to eat and drink them but instead return them to the store for a full refund. You do not need to have your receipt to get your money back

When a product is recalled, for any reason, the Food Safety Agency (FSA) shares details on what you should do if you have bought the item, as well as detailed information on why the product is being pulled from shelves.

Asda

Asda is taking the precautionary action of recalling three Asda Extra Special Mince Pies because they may contain pieces of plastic, which makes them unsafe to eat.

Co-op

Co-op is recalling anchovies in olive oil because it contains histamine. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with a sensitivity to histamine.

Best before end date: September 2023

Histamine can trigger an immune system response resulting in symptoms such as diarrhoea, shortness of breath, headaches, or skin irritation

The FSA added :"If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead return it to the nearest Co-op store for a full refund, or if self-isolating or shielding please contact the customer careline – contact 0800 0686 727 or customer.careline@coop.co.uk."
