Asbury University chapel service turns into multi-day revival

A scheduled hour-long chapel service at Asbury University has turned into something much longer and, to many attending, more meaningful.

It might be termed a revival. Chapel Wednesday at Asbury didn’t really end. It kind of just turned into hours and then days of worship.

“I’ve experienced the power of God before yes. I’ve never seen something spontaneous like this before,” said 2010 Asbury graduate Josh Lanier.

“I find hope that knowing over ten universities are represented inside. And I’m hoping it doesn’t stop with our generation. I want it to go those universities, but then from that, I want it to go into communities,” said Asbury Junior Grace Townsend.

Asbury Vice President Mark Whitworth said much like a Chapel service, it’s been Bible reading, messages, and singing. Lots of one-to-one and small-group prayer has also occurred.

With no real plan in mind, students have been a big part of what’s happening. But, many others have come to see. Jim Hall pastors a rural church in Clark County. He came by Saturday night.

“Not anything planned or orchestrated, but to see God move and that’s something we don’t see very much so I definitely wanted to witness that, to feel it,” said Hall.

This is not a first for Asbury. Back in 1970 there was an ongoing worship period that went on for about a week.
