Rapper ASAP Rocky has been detained in Sweden on suspicion of assault, two days before he is due to headline the Wireless Festival.

A Swedish court has ordered the New York-born hip-hop star to spend two weeks in pre-trial detention while police investigate a brawl in downtown Stockholm.

ASAP Rocky, 30, real name is Rakim Mayers, is being held following a hearing at the Stockholm District Court on Friday.

Defence lawyer Henrik Olsson Lilja said they would appeal the ruling, insisting the rapper and his group "were attacked and he made use of self-defence."

Video footage shared from the star's Instagram account

ASAP Rocky was allegedly involved in the fight on Sunday before appearing at a music festival in Sweden.

A video published by US showbiz website TMZ appears to show him throwing a punch at another man in the street.

It is not clear who else was involved in the incident.

In another video posted to his Instagram account, ASAP Rocky alleged two men had been following him and his team through Stockholm, accusing them of attacking his security with headphones.

Police held him on Wednesday after which he had to cancel performances in Norway and Poland.

Sweden's TT news agency confirmed that the rapper's world tour has been paused.

It comes two days before he was due to headline London’s Wireless festival.

The Standard has contacted the festival for comment.
