It used to be that NFL rookies would get some slack in terms of acclimating to the professional level.
But coaching staffs, front offices and fans aren’t as patient as they once were. Many rookies, especially top draft picks, are now expected to contribute immediately to their teams. Often, such a situation results in a baptism by fire with uneven results. But for the handful of rookies who are able to prove their mettle right away, the respect comes quickly.
