Asan N'Jie's TV comeback - from violent brawl to primetime role in Bloodlands

Asan N'Jie's promising career came to an abrupt halt back in 2019, when he threatened a fellow soap star at a glitzy award show.

As The Mirror reported exclusively at the time, the Emmerdale actor threatened I'm A Celebrity star Jamie Lomas's life and threw punches at him in a sweary exchange at the TV Choice Awards.

Asan was recorded yelling threats including "I'm going to f**king kill you" as security twice intervened to pull the pair apart.

Amid the brawl, celebrities such as Katherine Ryan ran out of the way at the upmarket Hilton Park Lane hotel in London's Mayfair district.

While Asan later apologised, the reaction was swift - his bosses axed him from Emmerdale, to be replaced by actor Aaron Anthony in his role as Ellis Chapman.

It was a sudden end to his seemingly bright future.

After a few small appearances on film, just a year into his first regular TV role the actor had attended the awards show nominated for Best Newcomer.

After his awards show night out ended in chaos, Asan hadn't acted on the small screen since.

But fans tuning into new BBC One drama Bloodlands were quick to spot a familiar face on Sunday evening.

The primetime show stars James Nesbitt and Charlene McKenna.

It was confirmed last year that Asan had secured a role in the new BBC drama, and he took to Twitter to promote the much anticipated series and his TV comeback.

The 26-year-old wrote: "Hope you all enjoy #bloodlands tomorrow 9pm #bbcone really grateful for having the chance to be a small part of the journey! You guys will love it."

Bloodlands is available on BBC iPlayer, while it airs Sundays at 9pm on BBC One.
