Asaduddin Owaisi blames Bihar CM Nitish Kumar for making BJP stronger

PATNA: The All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) national president Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday blamed Bihar CM Nitish Kumar for making BJP stronger in the country.

While addressing a public meeting at Baisi in Purnia district, Owaisi made a frontal attack on Nitish and said, “When history will be written, the name of Nitish Kumar will be mentioned as a leader who strengthened the BJP.”

“When Gujarat was burning, he (Nitish) was the railway minister,” Owaisi said, in an obvious reference to the 2002 Godhra riots.

The Hyderabad MP also attacked Nitish for his statement in which he (Nitish) allegedly described the AIMIM as a party for Muslims. “You described the AIMIM as a party of Muslims. Have you peeked in your organisation? You cannot go beyond the two communities of Kurmi and Kushwaha. Though you became the chief minister, you always ditched your allies.”

Owaisi, who is on a three-day tour to Bihar’s Seemanchal region since Friday, also attacked the RJD leader and Bihar deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav for “luring away” the AIMIM’s four of the five MLAs. The AIMIM’s all five MLAs won the 2022 polls from Seemanchal region, which comprises four Muslim-dominated districts namely Araria, Katihar, Kishangnaj and Purnia.

"In the 2020 assembly polls in Bihar, the people of Seemanchal region had blessed our party with five seats. The RJD lured away four of our MLAs. I want to tell them that they can purchase MLAs, but not our strong mass-based support. The MLAs elected by the people were purchased by the power of money," Owaisi said amidst applause from the audience.

Owaisi further slammed the four MLAs who deserted his party saying, “They have ditched the mandate of people of this region.”

The AIMIM chief further threatened to resort to “Chakka Jam” agitation in the Seemanchal region, if the Centre and the state government failed to execute necessary development works in all four districts of the region. “Neither Union home minister Amit Shah nor CM Nitish Kumar raised the issues related to the development of Seemanchal in their public meetings in Purnia,” Owaisi said and added his party and his workers would continue to fight for opening of a civil airport at Purnia, constitution of the Seemanchal Development Council and flood protection works in the region.

Owaisi also said that he would again come to the Seemanchal region after the holy month of Ramadan and begin a campaign for development of the region.

Owaisi would address a series of meetings in Kishanganj and Araria districts also on Sunday before leaving the region.
