As Tropical Depression Kirk dissipates, system between Bermuda, Bahamas could develop

ORLANDO, Fla. _ The National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area of low pressure that is expected to move near the southeastern U.S. coast this week.

According to an advisory Monday morning, that low-pressure system roughly midway between Bermuda and the Bahamas has a 40 percent chance of development in the next five days.

Elsewhere, Tropical Depression Kirk has dissipated in the south-central Atlantic. Its remnants have maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and were moving west at 23 mph.

Meanwhile, Subtropical Storm Leslie is no threat to land. It is about 1,240 miles west of the Azores and has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph. Leslie is moving east at 5 mph.

"Leslie is forecast to strengthen by midweek while it interacts and eventually merges with a frontal system,'' the hurricane center said.

And finally, the hurricane center expects a non-tropical, low-pressure system that is expected to form north of Leslie by Wednesday. It gives that disturbance a 50 percent chance of developing in the next five days.
