PUNE: Since Pune Municipal Corporation-run (PMC) schools reopened on February 1, the attendance in their primary sections has been just over 35%.
The civic education board is now making efforts via orientation to ensure that students and their parents are convinced to send their children to school, while continuing with hybrid education.
The attendance in the 754 private schools in the city ranged at around 31%.
Secondary education officer Shivaji Daundkar said attendance from standards VIII to X was decent on the first day. In Pune city, there are 276 PMC schools in total with 78,091 students, of which 28,119 attended in the first three days of reopening. The head of a PMC school in Chandannagar, Seema Palkar, said, “We have seen a thin attendance since schools reopened as people are still doubtful about their kids attending.”
“We are trying to speak to their parents and inform them about the safety measures we take,” Palkar added.
There are a total of 754 private schools in Pune city with 3,29,165 students. In the first three days, 1,01,000 students attended (30.80% of the total).
