As roster cuts near, Broncos are down to $1.57M in salary cap space

Before trimming their roster from 90 players to 53 players, the Denver Broncos have $1,570,052 in remaining salary cap space, according to NFL Players Association records accessed Saturday evening.

The Broncos lost to the Los Angeles Rams 10-6 in Week 3 of NFL preseason on Saturday and will wrap up preseason at home against the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday, Aug. 29.

After the preseason finale, Denver will have until 2 p.m. MT on Saturday, Aug. 31 to submit a 53-man roster. The team’s salary cap total will likely change after dozens of roster changes in the coming days.

One position that could eat up more of the team’s cap space is quarterback. With Drew Lock expected to miss a few weeks with a sprained thumb and Kevin Hogan struggling in preseason, the Broncos may consider adding a veteran QB after teams make cuts later this week.

If Denver does not use all of its 2019 salary cap, the leftover cap space will roll over into the 2020 season. Denver rolled over $8 million worth of unused 2018 cap space into the 2019 total earlier this year.
