Los Bukis, a Mexican musical group with a 50-year history, made history by announcing an upcoming residency in the city of Las Vegas, a mecca of entertainment that has also been home to some of the most legendary musical performances.

However, Los Bukis' residency can be considered a milestone for Latino artists, as it's the "first time in the history of Las Vegas" where there is a "100% Latin and Spanish-language residency," reads the announcement shared on social media by the Mexican group led by Marco Antonio Solís.

In the U.S. entertainment industry, the term "musical residency" has been coined to describe a series of concerts by an artist or group in the same city, at the same venue, for a minimum period of three months. Technically, if the concerts take place throughout a shorter duration, they are referred to as a tour.

Wrapping up their reunion tour that kicked off in 2021, Los Bukis decided to deliver an unforgettable finale in Las Vegas. The group, which defined an era in the late '80s and early '90s, aims to set an indelible mark on their fans.

Despite the fact that theirs will be the first residency 100% in Spanish, Los Bukis won't be the first artists of Latino descent to perform in this iconic format.

From legendary guitar player Carlos Santana to Ricky Martin and Jennifer López, many Latino artists have had residencies in Las Vegas. Here are some highlights.

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez, of Puerto Rican heritage, had a residency in Las Vegas from January 20, 2016, to September 29, 2018, at the Zappos Theater in Planet Hollywood. The Bronx Diva performed over 120 shows as part of the 'All I Have' residency, blending her more danceable tunes with some intimate moments.

Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera's 2024 Vegas residency, running from December 30 to March 2, 2024, is hosted at Voltaire within the Venetian Las Vegas hotel. In contrast to most grand Vegas shows, this venue offers a more intimate setting with a capacity of just 1,000 seats, as reported by Rolling Stone.

Aguilera, of Ecuadorian descent, had previously undertaken a musical residency in Las Vegas in 2019. However, her "The Xperience" at Planet Hollywood had to conclude earlier than planned in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ricky Martin

Ricky Martin was one of the first Latino artists to secure a residency in Las Vegas. The show, titled "Livin' la vida loca," ran from April 2017 to June 2018 at the Park Theater in Monte Carlo Resort and Casino.

Carlos Santana

Mexican Carlos Santana has had residencies in Las Vegas for more than a decade, according to The Nevada News. 'An Intimate Evening with Santana' at Vegas' House of Blues takes you on a journey through the most renowned tracks of the rock n' roll artist's extensive career.
