As HBO says no to more ‘Lovecraft Country,’ show creator teases what might have been

As HBO says it won’t be producing another season of “Lovecraft Country,” the show’s creator is revealing a bit of what the cable channel will be missing out on.

Misha Green, who launched the provocative horror series, tweeted Friday that Season Two would have been set in the four new countries that emerged from a divided United States:

A taste of the Season 2 Bible. Wish we could have brought you #LovecraftCountry: Supremacy. Thank you to everyone who watched and engaged. ✊ #noconfederate pic.twitter.com/BONbSfbjWg

In a later tweet, she clarified that the show would have introduced a zombie population, and that the midsection Whitelands are “overrun” with the undead and serve as a border between the other three nations.

The story would have moved beyond the Mark Ruff novel that inspired last summer’s critically acclaimed Season One, set and shot largely in Chicago and surrounding areas. Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams were among the executive producers.

HBO confirmed Friday that it was not moving forward with a second season of “Lovecraft,” adding in a statement to Deadline, “We are grateful for the dedication and artistry of the gifted cast and crew, and to Misha Green, who crafted this groundbreaking series. And to the fans, thank you for joining us on this journey.”
