As Covid-19 cases surge, Jammu admin imposes night curfew to check spread of virus

JAMMU: In view of the rising Covid-19 positive cases, the Jammu district administration has ordered imposition of night curfew from tonight.

The Jammu District administration tweeted that in view of increasing positivity rate in the city, the District Disaster Management Authority imposes Night Curfew from 10 pm to 6 am from Wednesday onwards.

"All are advised to follow Covid-19 SOPs and get fully vaccinated," it tweeted on its official twitter handle.

As per officials, 144 new positive cases of novel coronavirus (Covid-19), 19 from Jammu division and 125 from Kashmir division have been reported on Wednesday thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 33,44,32 while two Covid deaths have been reported from Kashmir Division.

On July 11, as Covid-19 cases continue to decline, the Jammu and Kashmir government has announced fresh relaxations in the lockdown rules as part of its "Unlock" process.

The J&K administration on Sunday granted relaxations for 16 districts – Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Poonch, Rajouri, Kishtwar, Ramban, Udhampur, Anantnag, Bandipora, Baramulla, Budgam, Ganderbal, Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian.

There will no longer be a weekend lockdown in these 16 districts. However, night curfew will remain in place every day from 8 pm to 7 am until further orders.

Earlier on May 31 (Monday) this year, after a month-long lockdown imposed due to a surge in Covid-19 cases, markets reopened in Jammu and Kashmir as the process of partial unlocking started in the Union Territory.

According to new guidelines imposed by authorities on Sunday, shops have been allowed to open on alternate days.
