As 3 NBA teams look to open facilities this week, Lakers eye May 16

Earlier on Wednesday, USA TODAY’s crack NBA duo of reporters Jeff Zillgitt and Mark Medina reported that three NBA teams intend to open their practice facilities by the end of the week on May 8: the Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Nuggets and Portland Trail Blazers. As for LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers, who went into the hiatus with the best record in the Western Conference, they will have to wait at least eight days after those three teams open their facilities before they open theirs.

The Athletic/Stadium’s Shams Charania reported on Wednesday evening that the Los Angeles Lakers are eyeing May 16 as the date when they will open their facility for players to be able to do individual workouts.

Friday still will be a key day for the league, even if only three teams are expected to open their facilities. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Wednesday that there is also expected to be a May 8 phone call with the league and the NBPA.
