Arundathi takes Railways to quarterfinals in BCCI senior women one-dayers

CHENNAI: Medium pacer Arundathi Reddy came up with a brilliant performance (4/30) to help Railways register a massive eight-wicket win against Tamil Nadu in the pre-quarterfinals of the BCCI Senior Women One Day Trophy (50 Overs) at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Wednesday.

Railways won the toss and chose to field first and bundled out Tamil Nadu for a paltry 115 in 45.2 overs, thanks to an extraordinary bowling by Arundhati. Kshama Singh (2/25) provided adequate support to Arundhati.

Tamil Nadu started with a caution as Arshi Chaoudhary (19) and veteran MD Thirushkamini (6) added 22 runs for the first wicket partnership but once the skipper Thirushkamini departed, the floodgates opened as Tamil Nadu lost next six wickets only for 40 runs.

Chasing a small target, the Railways players didn’t sweat much as their openers -- Renuka Chaudhari (27) and Indrani Roy (27) added 54 runs while Mona (37 not out) and SR Mane (20 not out) finished the job in style with 23.4 overs remaining.

Brief scores: Tamil Nadu 115 in 45.2 overs (MS Shailaja 31; Arundathi Reddy 4/30, Kshama Singh 2/25). Railways 119 for two in 27.2 overs (Renuka Chaudhari 27, Mona Meshram 37 not out). Result: Railways won by eight wickets.
