Artwork 'will bring a smile to people's faces' as drawings go up around Bestwood building site

Children from a local holiday scheme in Nottinghamshire have helped design hoardings for a building site. The designs for the hoardings around the Beckhampton site, Bestwood, have been created by children ages six to 11 years old who took part in Nottingham Forest’s Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) programme at Bestwood’s Robin Hood School.

The children all created colourful illustrations of homes, some of which had slides, see-saws, trampolines and even a football pitch. The drawings will be displayed around the site, which will see 129 new energy efficient council homes built by Nottingham City Council, Nottingham City Homes and construction partner Lovells.

These homes will then be let to Nottingham households on the council’s waiting list at affordable rents. Councillor Toby Neal, Nottingham City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing and Human resources, said: “These homes will be energy efficient and low cost to run. Many of them are family homes, and I think it wholly appropriate that children have been involved in the hoarding designs.

"Well done to everyone involved for making this happen.” Paul Stanley, Nottingham City Homes’ Head of Development, said: “In developing this site, we looked at the waiting list and identified the type of properties that are most in demand in Bestwood.

"These pictures that the children have done for the hoardings will really add to the streetscape around the site and will bring a smile to peoples’ faces.” Similarly, Calum Osborne, Nottingham Forest Community Trust Deputy CEO, added: "We’re thrilled to see the children’s work showcased at this local project.

"The HAF club they attended where they produced these drawings is all about community and gives children an opportunity to engage in enriching activities during the school holidays and provides them with healthy, nutritious meals to take home to enjoy with their families."
