Artur Boruc seals emotional transfer return as Celtic hero salutes the club 'he never really left'

Age-defying Artur Boruc has made an emotional return to Legia Warsaw and the 40-year-old admits he "never really left".

The Polish veteran keeper collected six major honours in a five-year spell at Celtic before moving to Fiorentina 10 years ago. He was back-up keeper at relegated Bournemouth after a spell with Southampton.

But after his contract expired with Bournemouth, he's returned to his first love and signed a one-year deal with Legia.

Boruc was famously pictured last year with a megaphone leading the chants of the Legia Warsaw fans at Ibrox during a Europa League tie against his old rivals Rangers, which then-Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe admitted he was unaware of.

And Boruc couldn't hide his delight after returning to Legia after 15 years.

He said: "I never really left Legia...I just worked at other clubs.

"When I was in the stands at Ibrox supporting Legia last year, I had no idea I would actually be back at the club so soon.

"There have been a few occasions down the years since I left in 2005 that there has been interest from Legia, but it's never quite happened.

"Even this time, I was not convinced it would happen until I physically put pen to paper. It's a dream come true for me.

"When Legia knew that I would be leaving Bournemouth we started talking and I am just so pleased we got the deal done. I may have left Legia, but my heart never did."
