Artur Boruc in transfer return as Celtic icon in line for shock switch to boyhood club at age 40

Celtic icon Artur Boruc could be set for an emotional return to Legia Warsaw at the age of 40.

The Bournemouth keeper earned six major honours during a five-year spell at Celtic before leaving for Fiorentina a decade ago.

And now the cult Parkhead hero is considering an offer to return to his homeland and play for Legia, the clubs he's always supported and played for before he moved to Celtic.

Boruc was famously snapped last year with a megaphone leading the chants of the Legia Warsaw fans at Ibrox during a Europa League tie against his old rivals Rangers, which Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe admitted he was unaware of.

And he could be set to return to the club, after Legia goalkeeping coach, Krzysztof Dowhan, said: "It would be a very good move by the club to bring back Artur.

"His contract at Bournemouth is now ending and it depends whether they stay in the Premier League or not whether he gets a new deal.

"But I think 40 is not old for a goalkeeper, especially with Artur because he's hardly ever been injured.

"Physically, it would not be a problem and he would be incredibly motivated to play for Legia, the club that made him."
