Sala Sudasiri Sobha is hosting "Musical Novelettes", a vocal and piano recital by Vietnamese-Korean artist couple Park Sung Min and Trang Trinh, on Sunday at 4pm.
This is expected to be a fun and lively afternoon, as the Hanoi-based young emerging couple will perform well-known pieces for both piano and vocals. The repertoire includes Verdi's La Donna É Mobile from Rigoletto, Puccini's Nessun Dorma from Turandot and Mozart's 12 Variations In C Major (the original tune for Twinkle Twinkle Little Star) and Liszt's challenging Totentanz.
A graduate with distinction from the Royal Academy of Music in London, concert pianist Trang Trinh started her international career in 2006 after gaining public attention from her debut in London Duke's Hall under the baton of Edward Gardner. Known for her pure, beautiful sound and sophisticated interpretation, she has worked with renowned artists and orchestras.
She's won many international prizes and became a sensation in Vietnam after attracting a new audience to the world of classical music through her sold-out creative recitals. Three years ago, she was dubbed by Forbes magazine one of the brightest rising stars under the age of 30 in Vietnam. This year, she was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music, an award given only to those who have distinguished themselves and made a significant contribution to the music profession.
Her husband, Park Sung Min, meanwhile, is a Korean lyric-tenor who sang in Rigoletto, Le Nozze Di Figaro, Die Fledermus, L'Elisir D'Amore, Cosi Fan Tutte and La Boheme.
He made his first appearance in Vietnam as special guest artist in Trang Trinh's recital in late 2011. Since then, he has sung in concerts in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, performed as soloist with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra and appeared on television.
Tickets cost 700 baht, with proceeds going to help blood-disease patients at the Bone Marrow Transplant club at Chulalongkorn Hospital. Sala Sudasiri Sobha is on Lat Phrao 41.
