Artist's impressions of a planned new school in Littleborough

This is the first look of how a new primary school in Rochdale could look.

Littleborough Community Primary School is to be rebuilt under the Government's 10 year £1bn school rebuilding programme.

Artist's impressions have been released ahead of a planning application being submitted in May.

Under the plans being put forward by construction firm Wates the existing primary school, dance studio and children's centre will be demolished.

But the current infant block will be retained and the children's centre will be moved into there, while the sports centre will not be affected by the plans.

During construction the school will remain fully open, but two temporary classrooms may be needed during building work.

Once the 420 place school is complete it will have 14 classrooms, a sports/assembly hall and a 26 place nursery.

If the planning application is approved work could begin in September.

It's one of three schools in Rochdale which have been chosen by government to be rebuilt.

The other two - Kingsway Park High and Newhouse Academy - will not be completely replaced, but will undergo substantial building work.

Speaking when the plans were first announced in January, Coun Kieran Heakin said: "This is absolutely magnificent news.

"These schools are going to benefit from new, state of the art facilities and ultimately that will be beneficial to children for years to come."
