Artist's classic shop mosaics provoke nostalgic memories for fellow Glaswegians

A series of mosaics depicting classic shops have been uncovered in a loft, provoking nostalgic memories for dozens of Glaswegians.

Illustrator Paul Dockery took to Twitter to share images of the mosaics, which show the likes of Sloans Dairies, Kelvinbridge Dairy & Grocers and the St George School of Hair Dressing, prominent in the 1970's.

The beautiful pieces of art are the work of Paul's mum, Elaine Dockery, a former Glasgow School of Art student, and were produced over 40 years ago, back in 1979.

Paul recently stumbled upon them in his loft which he was converting into a makeshift home gym to get exercise in lockdown.

He told Glasgow Live: "The shops were all in the West End of Glasgow, mostly from Great Western Road, but I’m not sure what the shops are now.

"My mum did a BA in mural design at GSA, that was her final year work, she has a lot of mosaics and stained glass around the house as well.

"They were just stored up my loft due to their size, I knew they’ve been there. I was using the loft space to do a workout routine then took photos of them when I was done."

The pictures have been met with a tremendous response on Twitter, with over 2,500 likes in under 24 hours.

One user said: "Why are these making me emotional? She's no even ma maw! These are great", while another added: "These are bloody amazing! Your Mam is super talented!"

A real trip down memory lane for many of us - how many of these stores do you recognise, Glasgow?
