Multi award-winning artist Verapong Sritrakulkitjakarn, aka Ayino, returns to Number 1 Gallery with a new exhibition, "The Conquer", which is running until May 27.

On display are a collection of large-scale paintings that reflect the state of the world and the nature of life which is complex, diverse and subject to change.
However, the artist believes that lying beneath many things is one hidden truth that doesn't sway to the currents of time. He compares artworks, which are sometime difficult to understand, to the world and life that people need to learn to understand.
He wants his art to play a part in showing life and human feelings including happiness, suffering, sadness, joy, confusion, fear, bravery, suspicion, hopefulness, dreams and wishes.
The artist doesn't sketch or create drafts. He begins each work with an outline of the main character, using his paintbrush. His straightforward drawings feature montages of different moments in time and unique snapshots of history, making the works resemble battle paintings with oversized characters that represent values such as persistence, honour and bravery.
But these figures are set alongside flashy signs of modern life and consumerism, as well as pop elements that create a striking contrast of values and aesthetics. It's a reflection of our existence and the diversity of human values.
Number 1 Gallery is on Silom Road and opens Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 7pm.
