Arthur Melo makes 'incredible' Liverpool admission as defiant message sent

Arthur Melo has conceded his time at Liverpool did not go as expected but he is now ready for the next challenge in his career.

The Brazilian midfielder joined the Reds as part of a season-long loan on transfer deadline day last summer, though made only one appearance for the club during 2022/23. This came in the form of 13 minutes at the end of a humiliating Champions League defeat by Napoli.

It remains to be seen what will come next for the 26-year-old, who has returned to parent club Juventus after what can only be described as an underwhelming spell on Merseyside. A recent report by the Daily Mail has suggested Wolves are 'considering' making a move for the former Barcelona man, meanwhile Aston Villa have also been linked with Arthur in recent weeks.

Liverpool had the option to turn their loan deal into a permanent transfer, though unsurprisingly rejected the chance to activate this €37.5million (£32m) clause. Though unable to make his mark, Arthur has shared he feels 'lucky' to have represented the club.

“Both Klopp and my teammates helped me a lot in a difficult moment and that is what I take with me. And in the Premier League the first word that comes to mind is intensity, incredible, and I was lucky to be there. That’s what marked me the most when I arrived," he told SPORT when reflecting on his time with the Reds.

Arthur added: "I have learned a lot from the past. I think I had difficult moments, but I was able to make the best of them. I see myself more mature, more prepared, better physically than ever. I have worked on the mental part, which is also very important. I think it is my best moment, with more experience, more mature, better physically, better mentally. I want to return to my maximum level and I know that I can do it. My head is very focused and I really want to achieve all my goals.

“I am in my best moment. I am already very well physically and mentally for this new season, which is very important for me and I can’t wait for it to start."
