Arthur Marks death: Starsky and Hutch and Dukes of Hazzard director dies aged 92

Arthur Marks, the director of Starsky and Hutch and Dukes of Hazzard has died at the age of 92.

Marks died on 13 November at his home in Woodland Hills, California, his son Paul, who is the producer of Narcos, confirmed.

“My brother and I learned everything about the film industry from my father,” he said. “He was a pillar of the industry. He taught us the morals of the industry and how to treat people.”

Marks was the director of 76 episodes of Perry Mason and worked on the TV shows I Spy and Mannix.

He was a native of Los Angeles born into a show business family. His father Dave Marks worked as an MGM assistant director and production manager with his credits including The Wizard of Oz and Easter Parade

After working as a child actor, Marks joined the US Merchant Marine Academy during the Second World War and served with the US Navy during the Korean War. He later became a member of the Directors Guild of America and had a prolific 20-year career as a film director.

Marks is survived by his sons Paul and Beau; daughters Kathleen and Elizabeth; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis.
