Arthur Labinjo-Hughes horror home may be demolished and turned into memorial garden

The horror house where Arthur Labinjo-Hughes was tortured and killed may be demolished and turned into a memorial garden.

The six-year-old was subjected to months of abuse by dad Thomas Hughes and stepmother Emma Tustin at her council-owned home in Solihull, West Mids.

He died last June after sustaining an unsurvivable brain injury at the hands of Tustin, 32, who has been jailed for a minimum of 29 years for Arthur’s murder. Hughes, 29, will serve for 29 years for his manslaughter.

A council source said: “Local people really want to see the house demolished and turned into a memorial garden in Arthur’s memory.

“The council owns the end terrace property and adjoining homes so it is completely in its gift but no family would want to raise their children in such a cursed home.

“A garden would be a fitting memorial to Arthur and maybe kids from the local school could help design it.”

Council chiefs may also consider a community hub or play area at the site so “something lasting” can come of his tragic death, they said.

The insider said no decisions will be made until an inquiry into Arthur’s case is concluded, but added: “No idea is off the table.”

A nationwide review has also been commissioned to examine whether opportunities were missed by authorities to save Arthur.

A spokesperson for Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council said it would be inappropropriate to comment ahead of the findings of the Local Child Safeguarding Practice Review.
