Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta delivers verdict on Willian and Lacazette after Aston Villa defeat

Mikel Arteta says that he has to 'help' Willian and Alexandre Lacazette to improve after a dismal showing against Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Gunners were taking apart by Dean Smith's side who looked a class above throughout the game, coming out eventual 3-0 winners at Emirates Stadium.

Willian and Lacazette were singled out by many fans on social media for disappointing displays in attack, but Arteta says that it's up to him to increase the players' performance levels over the coming games.

"My job is to get the best out of the players and put them in the best possible scenarios and if they're not performing it's because we have to help them more," Arteta said in his post-match press conference.

Lacazette had had fewer touches (9) than any other player on the pitch in the first half at the Emirates and won none of his three contested duels.

Willian, meanwhile has attempted two take ons (one completed) in the league this season and has struggled to influence games since the opening day win against Fulham where he notched a hattrick of assists.

According to Arteta, the front three is something that he could change after the international break with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also only managing one goal from open play in the league this season.

"We will consider those things when we look back at all the games we played since the last international break," said Arteta.

"It depends on whose in good form, good spirits and we will try to make the right adjustments."
