Artemis Fowl trailer: Kenneth Branagh's Disney adaptation of Eoin Colfer's famous novels receives teaser

Disney has unveiled the first teaser for their upcoming adaptation of Artemis Fowl.

Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the cinematic version of Eoin Colfer's famous novels follows the eponymous twelve-year-old criminal mastermind as he battles a powerful race of fairies who may be behind his father’s disappearance.

Newcomer Ferdia Shaw plays the youngster, with other cast members including Judi Dench, Josh Gad and Nonso Anozie.

Artemis Fowl has long been in development, with plans for an initial film being announced in 2001. At first, Miramax owned the rights, with Antz director Lawrence Guterman attached. After years of development hell, Disney announced they would be working with The Weinstein Company on the film in 2013, with Branagh joining two years later.

Following allegations of sexual assault levied at Harvey Weinstein, the producer was immediately removed from the project and the contract with his company was terminated. The full cast was announced as principle photography began earlier this year.

Artemis Fowl reaches cinemas 9 August 2019.
