Artem Anisimov injured as Blackhawks defeat Canadiens, 4-2

MONTREAL _ Center Artem Anisimov left the Hawks' game against the Canadiens after suffering an apparent left leg injury late in the first period.

The Hawks won the game, 4-2, thanks to goals from Patrick Kane, his 31st of the season, Johnny Oduya, Artemi Panarin and an empty-netter from Jonathan Toews, but the Hawks suffered a potentially big loss in Anisimov.

Anisimov was injured late in the first period after Canadiens winger Alexander Radulov crunched him into the boards. Anisimov remained on the ice until the Hawks' medical staff was able to attend to him.

Anisimov could not exit the ice on his own power and could make it to the dressing room with assistance. He did not put any power on his left leg as he left.

Earlier in the period, Anisimov assisted on Kane's goal, giving him a career high 45 points.

The Hawks also appeared to escape another significant injury when Corey Crawford took a slap shot from Canadiens defenseman Shea Weber off his mask. Crawford stayed in the game and was not required by the NHL's new concussion spotters to come out of the game.

With Anisimov out, Quenneville moved Nick Schmaltz from top line left wing to second line center between Kane and Artemi Panarin.

That combination played well together in a 4-1 victory over the Penguins on March 1 and they picked up where they left off. Schmaltz rifled a perfect pass from the left boards to the slot and hit Panarin, who scored high on Canadiens goaltender Carey Price to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead 47 seconds into the second period.

The Hawks' second goal came from Oduya, who scored from the point at 10:49 in the second period on a rising shot that fooled Price.

Kane finished the night with three points, putting him in the league lead momentarily over Connor McDavid with 76 points.
