Art lovers' extravaganza returns

It's a fun time for art lovers, as the sixth edition of Galleries' Night is returning on Feb 1 and 2, inviting you to travel around Bangkok in this two-night gallery-hopping event for art appreciation, with over 50 participating galleries throughout the city.

First launched in 2013, Galleries' Night is organised by the French embassy, and is one of the highlights of the La Fête festival. This year's event invites a large audience to discover and appreciate contemporary artistic creations.

Running from 5pm until late on both days, Galleries' Night will take you on a tour visiting over 50 galleries. While it sounds burdensome, it's actually more simple than one would think. Art lovers can easily hop on one of 30 dedicated tuk-tuks and travel specific routes to participating venues for a night alive with colour and variety.

As part of the Bangkok Art Biennale's official programme, the first evening will focus on galleries around the Silom area as well as along the Chao Phraya River. The second day highlights galleries in the Sukhumvit area. These galleries are organised by zone, with most found not far from the BTS's Silom and Sukhumvit lines.

Most participating galleries will be hosting opening receptions, talks, performances or screenings to mark the opening of Galleries' Night.

Some of this year's events include the screening of Yuthana And Siripon (Yuthana Und Siripon Monch Uuf Zeit) at the Jim Thompson Art Centre. Yuthana And Siripon is a documentary by German director Hans Bertel, depicting the mid-1960s Thai way of life through the titular couple. The film is wholly narrated in German and will show with English subtitles.

A mixed-media art exhibition by Portuguese street artist Mais Menos will be displayed at WTF Gallery and Cafe on Sukhumvit 51. The exhibition will focus on the fragility of democracy, censorship, nationalism and other issues faced in two countries -- Thailand and Portugal.
