Art Cadeau has completed a lucrative double for country racehorses in a result that is a crowning moment for trainer Terry Robinson.
Having won the Country Championship during the autumn, Art Cadeau claimed the $1.3 million Kosciuszko on Everest day at Randwick.
The Kosciuszko is a race exclusively for horses trained in NSW regional areas as well as the ACT and the Robinson name, not for the first time, will be the toast of a small township on the state's south coast.
It was from Berry that Robinson's father Kevin rose to the top of the harness racing world before switching his focus to training thoroughbreds.
Robinson has carried on the family business with consistent results but nothing to match Saturday's victory.
"It's the biggest moment of my career, there's no doubt about that," Robinson said.
Art Cadeau was one of the first horses picked for a Kosciuszko slot but he needed a precise piece of training to be at peak fitness.
The sprinter hadn't raced for 189 days but it didn't show as he lifted under jockey Tommy Berry deliver as the $4 favourite.
Canberra-trained Handle The Truth ($7) seemed to certain to win the race for the second time in three years when he shot to a clear-cut lead before being denied on the finishing line.
Scone-trained Spiranac ($12) took the minor placing.
