Arsonists torch Durham police car in Easington attack leaving it out of service

A police car was left badly damaged after a suspected arson attack in County Durham.

The vehicle, which was parked outside Easington Police Station, on Glebe Terrace in Easington, had to be taken out of service.

The incident took place at about 7pm on Friday and officers are now appealing for witnesses to come forward with information.

A spokeswoman for Durham Constabulary said: “It is extremely disappointing that a police vehicle has been targeted in this way.

"These actions mean there is now one less vehicle available to our officers.

“We are appealing for anyone who might have seen something to get in touch.”

Information about the attack was shared on the force's social media channels and was described as "absolutely shocking" by members of the public.

One woman said on Facebook: "My good God, what is wrong with people."

Another added: "Scum of the earth grrrrrr, hope they get caught."

Anyone with any information is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number 398 of February 19.
