Arsonists set fire to three cars in 'spree' in Henbury streets

Three cars were set alight by arsonists outside several homes in Henbury last night (June 4).

Fire crews from Southmead, Patchway and Avonmouth were all called to Sheepwood Close at around 11.05pm.

On arrival, firefighters discovered two cars which had been set alight and quickly extinguished the fires.

A crew from Southmead also tackled a car fire in the adjoining Dragonswell Road just 10 minutes earlier that evening.

Photos taken by a Henbury resident show the burnt-out wreckages of the two cars in Sheepwood Close.

The resident commented on Twitter this morning (June 5) that the three fires "look like a spree".

A spokesman for Avon Fire and Rescue confirmed that the cause of the three car fires is thought to be deliberate.

"A crew from Southmead were called at 10.55pm to a car fire in Dragonswell road," he said.

"We were then called at 11.05pm to two cars which had been involved in a fire on Sheepwood Close.

"Crews from Patchway, Avonmouth and Southmead attended. The cause is thought to be deliberate."

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Constabulary added: "We believe the fires were started deliberately.

"Enquiries are ongoing in relation to all three."
