'Arsonists' lucky not to destroy South Dublin playground after cruel vandals start blaze

Cruel vandals almost left a playground in South Dublin to burn down after starting a blaze near the amenity.

The Dublin Fire Brigade were called to the fire in Ballyfermot late on Monday night.

They tweeted photos of their brave firefighters putting out the blaze which was started when arsonists set rubbish alight near where local children come to play.

Dublin Fire Brigade said: "Firefighters from Dolphins Barn extinguished a fire set in bushes beside a playground in Ballyfermot."

They added: "Fortunately the fire was stopped from damaging the playground. Dumped rubbish is a target for arsonists.

"Report it on http://www.fixmystreet.ie  or directly to the local council."

Earlier this month, heartless thugs torched a children's playground in North Dublin overnight, leaving the area destroyed.

The fire in Coolock led to Dubliners venting their anger at such wanton and idiotic violence.

One user posted: "You’d have to wonder are there special kinds of p****s to do this to a kids playground or just ‘normal, we’re bored and have nothing to do’ kind!?!?!?"

Another tweeted: "It takes a special kind of twisted thug to destroy a kids playground."

A third said: "And these are the same people who will complain that they nowhere or nothing to do with their kids."

Another agreed, writing: "We’re bored and we’ve got nothing to do because we keep destroying the amenities in our community. Numbskulls."
