Arson warning after huge fires lit on the Gower at Cefn Bryn

Police in Swansea have issued a stark warning to anyone who starts a fire on common land or heaths. It follows the outbreak of a lengthy blaze along a strip of land near Cefn Bryn on Sunday night.

In a terse tweet issued at 12:15am on Monday (Feb 13), South Wales Police Swansea stated: "There have been reports of grass fires being lit on the Gower this evening. Gower neighbourhood policing team came across this fire on Cefn Bryn. . . Fire service were in attendance."

And with the message to keep Gower safe and to protect wildlife on the peninsula, the force added: "Arson will not be tolerated by South wales police."

Cefn Bryn, the five-mile-long ridge of common land, is home to many protected and rare species, such as the marsh fritillary butterfly, skylark and brown hare.
