Arson not ruled out in $500k Hobart shed fire

The fire on Christmas Eve was brought under control quickly.

Fire investigators have been unable to rule out arson as the cause of a shed blaze on Hobart's Eastern Shore on Christmas Eve.

The former State Emergency Service headquarters in Montagu Bay was completely destroyed by a fire on Sunday night, causing $500,000 in damages.

The fires started about 7:20pm and the shed was engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived.

A Tasmanian Fire Service and Tasmania Police joint investigation could not determine the cause of the fire due to the extent of the damage.

The building was unoccupied at the time, and no one was injured.

There was also no damage to surrounding properties.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
