Arson investigation launched following car fire

Detectives are investigating a car fire which is thought to have been started deliberately.

Nottinghamshire police were called just before 1am on Wednesday 14 October to assist Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service over reports of the fire in Aspley, Leen Valley.

Now detectives are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward with information.

The fire is being treated as suspicious and an investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances of the incident.

Detective Sergeant Nigel Malik is leading the investigation. He said: “Fires can have devastating consequences and it is fortunate that no one was harmed in the incident.

“We understand that this incident is incredibly concerning for the community and we will have extra officers in the area today to reassure the public.

“We are appealing for any witnesses following a report of an arson in the early hours of this morning.

“We were called to Empire Way in Leen Valley just before 1am of a report of a car on fire.

“The fire had spread dangerously towards the house, but thankfully only caused minimal damage to a wooden door.

“Thankfully no one suffered any injuries.

“We are now keen to speak to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious last night. We were told a person was seen to walk away immediately before the fire starts, so please do get in touch if you have any information."

If you can help with the force's enquiries, call 101, quoting incident number 20 of 14 October 2020.
