Arson investigation launched after two cars set on fire in Sunderland

An arson investigation has been launched after two cars were set on fire in the early hours in Sunderland.

The fires broke out shortly before 1.10am on Sunday October 25 on Humbledon View in Sunderland.

Emergency services were called to the scene and saw that the two cars which were on fire were on the same road.

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service attended alongside officers from Northumbria Police and the fires were extinguished.

Members of the public posted about the incident on Facebook and said a number of emergency service vehicles were on scene.

Police have since confirmed they are treating the fires as arson and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Shortly before 1.10am on Sunday we received a report of two cars were on fire on Humbledon View Sunderland.

"Officers and emergency services attended the scene and the fires were extinguished.

"The fires are currently being investigated as arson.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact police quoting reference number 68 25/10/20."
