Arson investigation launched after three cars torched near Northumberland caravan park

An arson investigation has been launched after three cars caught fire near a caravan park in Northumberland.

Emergency services were called to the incident near Haggerston Castle Caravan Park near Berwick at about 5am on Saturday when one car was reportedly set ablaze.

The fire then spread to another vehicle and while firefighters were there, another car fire was reported. Nobody was injured during the incidents.

The blazes were extinguished and the cause is currently being investigated but police have confirmed that it is being treated as arson.

A spokesperson for Haggerston Castle holiday park said: “Three cars were damaged by fire in an incident at the weekend. Thankfully no one was injured and no other property was damaged. Fire services and police attended and we assisted them in their response.”

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Shortly after 5.10am, police received a report of a car on fire near Haggerston Castle Caravan Park, Northumberland.

"It was reported that a car was on fire which had then spread to another parked car.

"A further report was received that another car nearby was also on fire.

"Emergency services attended and all three car fires were extinguished.

"The fires are currently being investigated as arson."

A spokesperson from Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that one fire engine from Berwick upon Tweed was sent to the scene and extinguished three car fires.

The fire service is also investigating the incident alongside the police.
