Arson investigation launched after fire at derelict pub

An arson investigation has been launched following a fire at a derelict pub.

Fire crews were called to the Bridge Inn, in Cotmanhay, Ilkeston, shortly before midday on Sunday, September 1.

It is understood the pub closed down earlier this year, according to Derbyshire Live.

The fire broke out inside the building.

Station manager Marc Redford said the fire could have been arson.

He said: “Crews mobilised at 11.49am and four appliances were sent altogether.

“We are waiting for the fire investigation officer to arrive. The fire was potentially deliberate but we need to confirm that.

“Nobody was hurt and nobody was inside when crews arrived."

Mr Redford added that he wished to warn young people about entering derelict buildings because of the hazards inside.
