Arson attack sparks fire in Dewsbury Road, Leeds as police shut Beeston street

An overnight fire in Leeds is being treated as arson, police have confirmed.

West Yorkshire Police (WYP) were called to Dewsbury Road, Beeston, at 12.23am to reports of a fire on the street.

Officers closed a section of the road as West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service (WYFRS) dealt with the blaze.

The road remained closed this morning and reopened at around 8am.

Reports suggest the fire broke out at a motor services business. WYFRS has confirmed the building fire involved oil and tyres.

Now, police have confirmed they are treating the fire as arson and the force is appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman for WYP said: "Police were called to reports of a fire on Dewsbury Road, Leeds, at 00.23am today (Monday 24 May).

"Officers attended to provide road closures as the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service dealt with the incident.

"Enquiries are ongoing into the incident which is currently being treated as arson.
